Overview Laverton is a suburb in Melbourne, just 17 kilometres away from the Melbourne central business district. The suburb is within the local government areas of Hobsons Bay and the City of Wyndham.
Neighbouring Laverton is the suburb of Trugania, Laverton North, Altona North, Williams Landing, Altona Meadows, Point Cook, and Seabrook. As of the 2016 census, Laverton is home to 4,915 people.
Living in Laverton Laverton used to have a bad reputation but has undergone plenty of developments throughout the years. Its location offers access to freeways, making the drive to the city faster and easier. There are also two train stations in the suburb (Airport and Laverton station) and several bus routes serving it.
There is the Laverton P-12 College, St. Martin de Porres Primary School, and Western Autistic School for schools within the suburb.
History of Laverton The first land sales in Laverton took place in 1886, led by the Staples Wise and Company. It was also in the same year when a local railway station opened here. Two years after, the Laverton Post Office was opened.
Fast forward to the 1950s, the suburb’s second primary school was established and had almost 1,000 students in 1966. During this time, two more primary schools and a high school started to operate here.
The suburb was also home to the Royal Australian Airforce.
