History of Lucknow The Lucknow run, inhabited in 1842, was titled after an Indian settlement. In 1860, the Mitchell River crossing was serviced by a governmental punt. Through the use of a bus service between Sale and Lucknow, steam cleaners started making frequent journeys up the Mitchell River. Furthermore, the public intermediate school was formerly located on the Lucknow-Bruthen Road but was relocated in 2003 to Howitt Road, on the boundary of Lucknow and Wy Yung. A shop opened in 1854, while in 1857, the first hotel was made accessible to the public. These openings were spurred on by transcontinental railroads in the surrounding countryside.
