Overview Malabar is a suburb located in the southeastern portion of Sydney, New South Wales. The suburb is situated in the local government area of the City of Randwick. It is situated 12 km southeast of Sydney CBD. Malabar is surrounded by a few suburbs such as Matraville, Maroubra, Chifley, and Little Bay.

History of Malabar The suburb is named after the MV Malabar ship that was shipwrecked in 1931. Before the wreck, the suburb was known as Brand or Long Bay. Traditionally, it was known among the Indigenous people who once inhabited this coastal suburb as a camping or healing place. It was officially established as a suburb in 1933.
