History of McMahons Point The name of this suburb is taken from an Irish farm labourer, Michael McMahon. He was a successful manufacturer of brushes and combs and ended up building his family home in 1884. In 1890, he became the mayor of the borough of Victoria. Before the European settlers arrived, though, this land was inhabited and under the custody of the Cammeraygal people.
