Based on the 2016 census, Mothar Mountain has a population of 534.
Living in Mothar Mountain Half of the town (in its southeast) is part of the Woondum National Park, where the popular Mountian Rock Pools are found. This area has family-friendly locations, perfect for a barbecue. Picnic tables, wood fire barbecue, and other public amenities are available here. A trail for a forest walk along tall Eucalyptus trees can also be found in this area.

History of Mothar Mountain It is believed that the rock pools in Mothar Mountain were significant to the Aboriginal people.
The first school in the town was opened in July 1908 and was called MOTHAR Mountain Provisional School. A year after, the school was named Mothar Mountain State School. The school continued to be operational until 13 July 1970.
One of the heritage-listed establishments in the town is the Mothar Mountain Hall that was built in 1957.
