History of Mount Larcom On the 4th of August, 1802, Commander Matthew Flinders called Mount Larcom (the mountain) after a Royal Navy comrade, Captain Thomas Larcom. For most of the colonial era, the name of the territory around the mountain was spelt Mount Larcombe. In the early 1900s, the spelling was changed to Mount Larcom. The British colonial Government of New South Wales determined that the area was suitable for pastoral cultivation in 1854. Moreover, the Mount Larcombe sheep station was created by William Young, a Scottish colonist and former Gayndah storekeeper.
