Overview Newborough is a suburb in the Latrobe Valley, Victoria, Australia. It is located around 125 km southeast of Melbourne and part of the Moe-Newborough urban area. The suburb can be divided into three regions: East Newborough, Old Newborough, and North Newborough. At the 2016 census, it has a population of 6,763.

History of Newborough The State Electricity Commission of Victoria developed East Newborough and North Newborough as residential housing in the 1950s. These houses were meant for workers at the Yallourn coal mining, briquette making, and power generation works. In 1942, Newborough Post Office opened, and in 1951, Newborough East Post Office was commenced. Again in 1965, a Newborough North Post Office was opened. The early 1950s were a rapid growth time when a Catholic primary school and the Newborough East State school opened.
