Overview Less than 6 km north of Sydney Harbour, Northbridge is a significant suburb in New South Wales. It is under the administration of the Willoughby city council. Home to the landmark Long Gully Bridge, the suburb was established in 1913. According to the 2016 census, Northbridge had 6,347 residents. Former Australian prime minister Bob Hawke lived in Northbridge from 1992 until he died in 2019.

History of Northbridge Northbridge got its name from a sandstone suspension bridge connecting the locality with Cammeray. The bridge was initially built by a private real estate developer in 1892 to facilitate residential growth to the north of Flat Rock Creek. In 1912, the NSW state administration overtook it. The area to the north of the suspension bridge became Northbridge.
