Overview Panania is a suburb in Southwest Sydney in New South Wales, Australia; it is part of the City of Canterbury-Bankstown local government area and the federal division of Banks. Based on the census data from 2016, Panania is home to 21,788 residents. It is bordered by a few other suburbs such as Milperra, Revesby, Voyager Point, Picnic Point, Revesby Heights, and East Hills. It shares a postcode with a couple of these suburbs.
Living in Panania Panania is an easily accessible residential suburb given its proximity to the M5 South Western Motorway. Its population consists mainly of families with kids and professionals. This suburb has a shopping district located next to the Panania railway station. Aside from shopping, there are also government offices and facilities in the area. The only hotel (Panania Hotel) in the suburb is located north of the railway station. Most of the homes in the suburb that remained from World War II were made of fibro materials, but most were rebuilt into duplex houses.
History of Panania Panania is a word of Aboriginal origin that means “sun rising on the east and shining on the hills”. Before it was named Panania, this suburb was once a part of the original East Hills district. Other names that were considered as choices for this suburb were Elmswood and Linden Park.
