History of Parkside Parkside comes with a fascinating history. It used to be the home of the mental health campus of the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Known as the Parkside Lunatic Asylum, the place was home for those diagnosed with chronic mental health illness, those nearing the end of their lives, unmarried women with children, and prostitutes were placed in the asylum. The conditions back then were not good, and approximately one-third of the patients died in the asylum.
The system was changed in 1913, and improvements were carried out to change the image of Parkside. Luckily, that is now just a distant memory for those lucky enough to live in Parkside now!
