Overview Paynesville is a resort town within the Gippsland area in Victoria. Known as the region’s boating capital, this famous holiday destination is bounded by two bodies of water. The Newlands Backwater cuts through the southern part while the Eagle Point Bay traces the northern section. The Payneville Road intersects with the Main Road, which then connects to the Esplanade Road.
Aside from the surrounding bays, the suburb is bounded by Eagle Point on the west, Raymond Island on the west, and Newlands Arm on the south.

One of the earliest developments in the suburb was during the establishment of the post office in 1879. At that time, it was still called Toonalook. It later transitioned into Paynesville, a name given by the Dickson family in 1886.
