Overview River Heads is a suburb nestled on a narrow peninsula within the Fraser Coast Region, Queensland. This coastal locality is bounded by various bodies of water, including the Great Sandy Strait on the east, Susan River on the west, and Mary River on the south. It is 15 minutes from Hervey Bay and is surrounded by the communities of Booral and Susan River. River Heads Road splits the expanse into eastern and western sections.
Living in River Heads As a coastal town, River Heads offers breathtaking sights of different water bodies. And because of its location, it serves as a primary departure point for those visiting the famous Fraser Island. There are a handful of RV and caravan parks around and rental accommodations to cater to the tourism industry.
Aside from the recreational sites, residential houses take up a portion of the town. Most of these are located on the eastern side. History of River Heads River Heads was formerly known as Bingham. It was later renamed to its current name in 1986. Early development in the area was the Bingham State School (Mary River Heads Provisional School), founded in 1915. In 1926, the school was formally closed.
