History of Rosebud Rosebud, formerly Banksia Point, originated as a fishing village in the early 1850s. On June 2, 1855, the cargo steamer Rosebud, owned by well-known pastoral nomads Edward Hobson, pulled from the water. They took the damask and household items, but the ruin lingered for many decades as the villagers slowly dismantled it for building materials. The region became known as "The Rosebud" after the ship, which was shortened to "Rosebud" after the ship's remnants vanished.
