Overview Scoresby is a suburb of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia, and is a part of the City of Knox local government area. It is located 29 kilometres east of Melbourne's Central Business District and is neighboured by the following suburbs: Wantirna South, Glen Waverley, Wheelers Hill, Rowville, and Knoxfield. As of the 2016 census, the population of Scoresby was 6.019.
Living in Scoresby The suburb of Scoresby offers peaceful living, surrounded by greenery. Scoresby village is the main shopping precinct of the suburb, which includes a supermarket and many other small stores, hairdressers and other services. Scoresby is also close to many shopping centres, such as the Knox Shopping Centre, the Westfield Fountain Gate Shopping Centre, and the Stud Park Shopping Centre in Rowville. The area also has many good schools and restaurants.
History of Scoresby The area in which Scoresby is built was first surveyed in 1857. It was named in honour of William Scoresby, an Arctic explorer. A township developed here in the 1870s around the intersection of Stud Road and Ferntree Gully Road. In 1972, the first school of Scoresby was established, along with a Methodist Church. Soon after, market gardens were opened in the area. The Scoresby post office was opened on 20 January 1890 and closed in 1979, then reopened in 1984 as the suburb population grew.
