Overview Scotsburn is a small suburb situated in Victoria State, Australia. It is approximately 16km from Ballarat and near the Midland Highway leading to Geelong. The Shire of Moorabool is the local governing body and oversees the town’s administration consisting of 258 residents (Australian Census, 2016).

History of Scotsburn The town was named after the Scott family, who settled in 1840. Both Andrew and Celia Scott arrived in the region in 1839 and started raising their cattle farm covering 16,000 acres. The post office was opened in 1880 as Scott’s Marsh but was renamed Scotsburn in 1889 and was closed in 1971. The Union Church was opened in 1884 on an acre of land donated by Andrew Scott.
