Overview Seddon is a suburb situated between the towns of Yarraville and Footscray. It is located only seven kilometres from Melbourne, and this proximity resulted in the gentrification of the suburb over recent years. Seddon is under the local government of the City of Maribyrnong, with an area of only one square kilometre. As of 2016, the suburb has a population of 21,464.

History of Seddon Seddon was called Belgravia before it was named after the former New Zealand Prime Minister, Richard John Seddon. The Prime Minister from 1893 to 1906 settled in Seddon for a short amount of time before living in Bendigo and New Zealand. The suburb was officially established in 1906. Since then, railway lines, shopping districts, retail areas, and other establishments have been developed, and interestingly have their streets named before monarchs.
