Overview Springwood is a suburb in the Blue Mountains in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The suburb is located 72 kilometres west of the Sydney Central Business District and lies in the local government area of the City of Blue Mountains. It is situated near the Blue Mountains National Park and the Greater Blue Mountains Area World Heritage Site. According to the 2016 population census, the town had 8,475 people.
Living in Springwood Springwood is a beautiful suburb with many parks, recreational facilities, and other spots. It has several parklands with bushwalks that lead into the wilderness of the area.
There are some fantastic tracks in Fairy Dell that are located immediately south of the suburb. These tracks lead to the Blue Mountains World Heritage area. Another popular bushland area is the Deanei Reserve, located east of the township and home to the endangered Blue Mountains Shalecap Forest.
Buttenshaw Park is a famous recreational area, while Summerhayes Park is a public reserve in Winmalee. The suburb hosts an annual celebration called Foundation Day, held from late March to early April.
History of Springwood The Oryang-Ora Aboriginal people first occupied Springwood, and they belong to the broader Darug Aboriginal tribe. These people are believed to have been settled in the area about 40,000 years ago. There are many rock carvings and art sites in the area confirming Aboriginal occupancy. At the time of settlement, Oryang Jack was the chief of the clan. It is also believed that Oryang-Ora also marked the dividing ridgeline between the Darug tribes of the North and the Gundungurra tribes to the south of the Blue Mountains area.
