History of Sun Valley QLD When Count Felix Schaffgosch landed in the Valley on January 16, 1936, Ketchum, a once-thriving mountain town, had devolved into a sleepy tiny village with a year resident of fewer than 100 people. Union Pacific Chairman Averell Harriman had recruited the Count to survey the West for the best location for a destination ski resort.
