Living in Toolooa The suburb of Toolooa is located close to Gladstone Central, which provides easy access to the city centre. Two hundred forty-three families live in the suburb of Toolooa (as of the 2016 census), and most of these families have children.
It also consists of over 400 private dwellings, and less than half of the residents live on rental properties. There is a secondary school in Toolooa located in Phillip Street – the Toolooa State High School. There are no primary schools in the suburb, although there are plenty of options near Kin Kora and South Gladstone.
History of Toolooa The suburb's name is derived from Aboriginal origin, particularly of the Gurang language of the indigenous people that initially settled in Barney Point. When Maurice Charles O'Connell arrived in Gladstone, he built a house in 1856 and named it Toolooa House. That same name was later used for a railway station located south of Gladstone, although that no longer exists today.
