History of Swan Hill The original settlers of Swan Hill were the Wemba-Wemba and Wati-Wati clans. During their time, the area was referred to as the place of the platypus or the Matakupaat. Centuries later, the place was discovered by Thomas Mitchell, an explorer who bestowed the name Swan Hill. Subsequently, the European community in the expanse was expanded, and significant developments were established, including the Post Office that was opened in 1849. A railway, some rick water towers, and telephones were built several years later. The place became a city in 1965.
