Overview Sylvania Waters is a suburb of southern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, and is a part of the local government area of Sutherland Shire. It is neighbouring the following suburbs: Sylvania, Miranda, Georges River, Taren Point, and Caringbah. As of the 2016 census, the population of Sylvania Waters was 14,209.
Living in Sylvania Waters Sylvania Waters is a peaceful and thriving suburb with beautiful water views. Primarily residential, the suburb is also home to three small shopping strips. It is located only a short drive away from Miranda Westfield and Cronulla Beach, ideal for outdoor enthusiasts. The residents of the suburb also have access to public buses that run throughout the day. Many educational institutes are located in Sylvania Waters, such as the Sylvania High School, the Sylvania Public School, the Sylvania Kindergarten, Sylvania Heights Public School, Chantel's Kindergarten, and the Oak Tree preschool.
History of Sylvania Waters The land on which Sylvania Waters is built used to be owned by a politician, Thomas Holt. He built a house on the foreshore of Gwawley Bay in 1818, on the Eastern side of Sylvania. He established the Sutherland Estate Company in 1881, and so the development of the area began. A post office opened here in 1883. A school was opened in 1884 but closed down in 1891 to reopen in 1925. The Sylvania Heights Public School opened in 1955.
