As of the 2016 census, the population of Tanby was 539 individuals.

History of Tanby By 1889, the town of Central Queensland was growing steadily, with many hotels, boarding houses, a sugar mill, a telegraph service, and Yeppoon’s first State School. Tanby was also a part of these adjacent areas and thus, started seeing growth around the 1890s and, soon, a few settlers.
