Overview Taroona in Tasmania is an aboriginal word that means seashell. It is a central residential suburb located approximately 15 min drive from the Hobart centre. It is situated on the scenic road between Kingston and Hobart. Even though it is present in Hobart, Taroona, it is part of the Kingsborough Municipality.

History of Taroona In the 19th century, the first settlement of Europeans took place when the land was given to settlers who relocated from Norfolk Island. During the first half of the 20th century, the more extensive and beautiful residence was built along with beach shacks and some cottages used for seaside holidays by Hobart residents. After World War II, a major subdivision of Taroona was done, allowing the suburb's population to expand. As it was developed in the automobile era, Taroona was mainly the beginning of a commuter suburb.
