Overview Thornlands is a residential coastal suburb that lies 28 km to the southeast of Brisbane’s central business district. It is a part of the City of Redland. Its neighbours are Mount Cotton, Victoria Point, Sheldon, Moreton Bay, Alexandra Hills, and Cleveland. It has a population of around 14700, according to the 2016 census. Thornlands has a population of diverse ethnicity.
Living in Thornlands Some areas are still under farming, while the rest is all residential. Many schools and colleges can be found here. With the new housing developments, Thornlands is experiencing rapid growth in its population. Sports and cultural associations aren’t many. Redlands District Rugby League Football Club and Pinklands Netball and Pony Club are mentionable amenities here. Nazarene Theological College is housed on Woodlands Drive.
History of Thornlands Initially, Thornlands was settled by farmers of European descent. The area got its name around 1900 from a significant landowner here, George Thorn. Most of the farms grew mangoes, bananas, and citrus fruits. 1910 saw the opening of the Thornlands State School. The area saw growth only after the mid-1900s. Even though the early 2000s, there has been a continuous development of some sort or the other. Today the suburb is a beautiful residential locality where the demographics show a somewhat evenly distributed age group.
