Overview Turramurra is a suburb in the Upper North Shore region of Sydney. It is located 16 kilometres northwest of the Sydney central business district. It is surrounded by Wahroonga, Warrawee, North Turramurra, St Ives, South Turramurra, West Pymble and Pymble. As per the 2016 census, Turramurra is home to 11,919 residents.
Living in Turramurra Turramurra’s central commercial district is located along Pacific Highway and Rohini Street. Banks, supermarkets (including Coles), bakeries, fruit markets, and other businesses are found in this area. Across the suburb, there are also small grocers, pizza restaurants, delicatessen, fine wine shops, and even a veterinary hospital.

History of Turramurra The suburb’s name is derived from an Aboriginal word, “high hill or high place.” The early European settlers in the area worked as timber-getters, where they referred to the land as Eastern Road. Settlers also grew a variety of fruit and vegetables in the ground and citrus orchards, as the elevated parts of the suburb receive high rainfall.
Its current name, Turramurra, was officially adopted when the railway station was opened in 1890. Fast forward to the 1960s; the suburb saw a significant development in both residential and commercial establishments. By the ‘80s, Turrumurra already had a large supermarket, a local library, and various small shops.
