Covering an area of 2.4 square kilometres in land area, Watsonia is bound by Bundoora, Greensborough, and Watsonia North to the north, Macleod to the west, and Yallambie to the southeast.

History of Watsonia Watsonia is historically inhabited and settled by the Wurundjeri people. The suburb is named after Frank Watson, a property developer in the area. This land was first surveyed in 1838. Until the 1940s, this area remained largely rural. It was officially established in 1924.
