West Perth contains many retail outlets located on the famous Hay Street, the central commercial zone of the suburb. History of West Perth The location of West Perth used to be home to the Perth Metropolitan Markets during the years 1929 to 1989. The suburb was established in the 1990s, during which its residents were mainly politicians and wealthy merchants. In 1997, the Constitutional Centre of Western Australia was opened in West Perth in the building that once housed the Old Hale School.
