Overview Ballan is a small suburb in Victoria, Australia, located on the Werribee River and 80 kilometres northwest of Melbourne. It is neighboured by the following localities: Bunding, Gordon, Mount Egerton, Bungal, Colbrook, Fiskville, Dales creek, Greendale, Myrmiong, and Bacchus Marsh. As of the 2016 census, the population of Ballan was 3,440.
Living in Ballan Ballan is the main administrative centre of the local government area of the Shire of Moorabool. History of Ballan During the Victorian Gold Rush, gold was found on the land of Ballan, which led to many prospectors visiting the area in 1851. Soon after, the Ballan Hotel was built, and the town became an important assembly point for coaches headed to the Ballarat Goldfields nearby. The town’s post office opened in September of 1853. The Ballan Primary School was established on 8 January 1855.
