Overview Gordon is a small suburb in Victoria, Australia. It is located on the Old Melbourne Road in the Shire of Moorabool local government area. It lies 95 km west of the state capital, Melbourne. According to the 2011 population census, 1,151 people were living in the area.

History of Gordon Gordon was named after settler George Gordon who settled in the area in 1838. He has a 30,000-acre stock farming which was popular with the name of ‘Gordons’. In 1853, gold was discovered in the district and in some areas around the town also. The suburb started developing as it was located at the main road junction to the nearby goldfields. There were many Irish settlers in the suburb, but they weren’t into mining but agriculture, especially potato farming. In 1858, the local Post Office opened and was popular as Gordon’s until 1887.
