History of Bannockburn The suburb of Bannockburn was founded in the 1850s and it was known then as Leigh Road, which is taken from the battle site in Scotland. It became a coaching stop in the 1850s to the 1860s as it served as the main route for the Ballarat goldfields. It was changed to its current name in 1904.
