Overview Beaumaris is an affluent coastal suburban town located 20 kilometres away from the southeast of Melbourne's central business district. History of Beaumaris Before European arrival, the Bunurong (or Boon Wurrung) communities of the Kulin nation resided along the eastern shore of Port Phillip Bay. In 1845, James Bickford, one of the first European settlers of the region, named his pastoral range 'Beaumaris' after the Welsh village Biwmares. Josiah Holloway built a mansion and a farm near Moorabbin in 1852 and called it Beaumaris. The present-day Beaumaris includes the estate and farm.
