History of Cheltenham
Cheltenham was one of the parishes of Moorabbin's early villages. The Boon Wurrung people utilised natural springs, and when Europeans came, they set up market gardens and orchards in the area. It began with Josiah Morris Holloway buying 625 acres of land at auction on May 11, 1852. In 1853, he subdivided this property into 370 allocations, which he sold. The town was first known as Two Acre Village since many blocks were two acres in size.
