History of Calamvale The name Calamvale came from James Calam, an early settler and prominent landowner in the suburb. James Calam moved into the area with his family, and they built their homestead at the top of Calam Road on a hill. Though the area was known as Calamvale for long, it was officially listed as a suburb in 1972. In 1984, the Calams sold their house to the McGuire family, and they built the Calamvale Hotel on the land.
