History of Cambooya The 65,000 acres of land acquired by Arthur Hodgson in 1840 was the first recorded European settlement in the area. Hodgson named the settlement Eton Vale. In 1843, a site on Eton Vale was reserved by the South Wales Commissioner of Crown Lands. The town was named Cambooya. The railway goods yard was the primary industry in Cambooya.
The expansion of Toowoomba brought about the rise in house prices, creating a demand for lower-cost rural-residential living areas such as Cambooya. This paved the way for the growth of Cambooya, allowing the establishment of a hotel, a pre-school and state primary school, and a lot of local businesses in the 1980s and 1900s. In 2008, Cambooya became the 23rd most liveable town in Australia.
