Overview Carina is a residential suburb located in the City of Brisbane local government area. It covers an area of 4.5 square kilometres and is approximately 7 km east of Brisbane’s CBD area. Carina is bordered by a few suburbs, including Cannon Hill, Tingalpa, Carindale, Carina Heights, Seven Hills, and Camp Hills.
Living in Carina Carina is a peaceful and green suburb with plenty of lifestyle opportunities for its residents. It has a few great schools that make it an ideal place for families to settle in. It is also home to numerous heritage-listed sites, including Flint’s Cottage and the Old Cleveland Road Tramway Tracks. It has its own public library and a large sporting complex. The suburb has its own soccer and football clubs. Even though there is no railway station in the suburb, it is serviced by several tram routes.
History of Carina The suburb was named after the daughter of Ebenezer Thorne, who owned a property where the suburb is now located. His daughter’s name was Kate Carina. Europeans first arrived and settled in the area in the 1850s. During this time, the land was used for timber-getting and farming. It developed in the early 1900s but remained predominantly rural until the Second World War. Public housing projects began in 1952.
