It shares its borders with Mount Gravatt East, Carina Heights, Carina, Mansfield, Tingalpa, Mackenzie, Chandler, and Belmont. The census of 2016 showed that Catindale has a population of just over 15750 people. The name Carindale has been combined with 'Carin' from a nearby suburb called Carina, and 'dale' meaning valley.

When this area was separated from Belmont in 1980 and officially declared a separate suburb, it took its name from the same estate.
