Overview Brisbane’s Tingalpa suburb is one of the fastest-growing suburbs in Queensland. Tingalpa shares its borders with Manly West and Wakerley to the east, Belmont to the south, Hemmant to the north and Cannon Hill in the west. The Bulimba Creek forms its western border.

History of Tingalpa Tingalpa is named after a creek of the same name positioned 9 km to its east. In the native language, it means the place where plants used for fish stupefying grew. The suburb was subject to a European survey as early as 1841. It grew to be a township by 1863 and got a post office and a beautiful Gothic church in 1867. Tingalpa, which had hotels, schools, and a cemetery, became a local administration unit in 1880. Between 1925 and 1949, the Tingalpa shire was integrated with the Greater City of Brisbane in a phased manner.
