Living in Gumdale Most of the residential properties in Gumdale have approximately 1.2 to 2.5 acres in size. The acreages broadly cover the expanse, and only around 5% take up the other development sites. Accordingly, this makes Gumdale the acreage suburb closest to the CBD. Most shops are situated along New Cleveland Road, at the corner of Dianthus Street and Tilley Road. The Gumdale State School, on the other hand, is located just across the commercial centre.
History of Gumdale In 1885, the Grassdale Land Company Limited obtained a properly called Grassdale Paddocks. This expanse covers Gumdale as well as other Brisbane suburbs such as Chandler and Belmont. Auction of the land began in the same year, and allotments then occurred for various roads in the area. Gumdale was initially called Grassdale, which means the grass trees that grew in the zone. The name was changed to avoid confusion with a farm in South Australia known as Grassdale. The transitioning of the name was completed in 1942.
