Overview Located on the southern bank of Brisbane River, Murarrie is one of the most sought-after suburbs in Queensland. The Brisbane CBD is 10 km west of it, while Bulimba Creek forms its eastern and southern borders. Home to lots of parks and green reserves, Murarrie hosts residential as well as industrial zones. It had 4,303 residents at the 2016 census. News Corporation office at the town publishes The Courier-Mail and The Sunday Mail, two most prominent newspapers in Brisbane.

Living in Murarrie A tremendous family-friendly suburb, Murarrie is home to lots of parks and reserves. The CBD is less than 15 minutes drive allowing quick access to Brisbane’s shops, cafes and business centres. From Murarrie, one can quickly reach Gold or Sunny coast. The Gateway Bridge is nearby, allowing faster travel to the beach. Buses and trains are available every 10-15 minutes making public transport an excellent option. There are plenty of avenues for activities and recreation. The Gateway Motorway runs in the middle of the suburb, while the Murarrie railway station is an essential stop on the Cleveland line.

History of Murarrie Until 1907, Murarrie was called Mooraree, which means “a muddy place” in the Aboriginal language. Christopher Porter was the first European to settle in the area, and he built a homestead named Mooraree House in 1861. As the settlement expanded, it came to be known as Mooraree. The Queensport Hotel, one of the oldest in Brisbane, came up as early as 1864. Many more hotels, schools, churches and businesses were established in Murarrie by 1920. Queensport and Gibson Island were integrated with the suburb in 1975.
