This riverside locality is walled by Murarrie on the west, Wynnum West on the east, Lytton on the northeast, and Tingalpa on the south. Aside from Brisbane River, the Bulimba Creek maps out the western section of the area. Two main roads go through the vicinity―Port of Brisbane Motorway and Lytton Road. History of Hemmant In 1858, the expanse where Hemmant sits was sold to grow fruits and vegetables. Subsequently, the sugar cane industry thrived and one of the famous mills at that time was Gibsons Clydesdale. In 1864, the Bulimba State School started its operations. The school was later renamed Hemmant State School. A section of the suburb was previously called Doughboy Creek. Then, in 1876, the suburb earned its current name after William Hemmant, a treasurer in the area who represented the Bulimba electorate.
