Living in Hamilton Toorak House, Lochiel, Woollahra, and Hamilton State School are the only more popular heritage sites. With a mixed population of Australians, Americans, Indians, Irish, Italians, and English, it is only natural that the food and music here are also rich in tradition and taste. Although stamped as an affluent community, the populace here is most welcoming and accommodating.

History of Hamilton A Gustavus Hamilton built the first hotel here. A Mrs Warren was a lessee of this hotel and later married another Hamilton. Since the owners were coincidentally all Hamiltons, and the hotel itself was a famous landmark during those nascent years of the settlement in the area, this whole district got its name of Hamilton.

Many clergy and aristocrats have lived in Hamilton. One can still find many iconic mansions here. 1907 marked the opening of Hamilton State School. St Cecilia’s Catholic Church was inaugurated in 1914.
