Overview Coldstream is a suburb in Greater Melbourne, situated 36 kilometres northeast of Melbourne’s central business district. The suburb is located within the local government area of the Shire of Yarra Ranges and has a population of 2,164 based on the 2016 census.

History of Coldstream The Ryrie brothers, who were overlanders from New South Wales, began their grazing venture in Coldstream and nearby Yering and Yaringberg in 1838. It is also here where William, one of the two brothers, started to plant vineyards, tended to by skilled workers from Switzerland.
The township of Coldstream began to develop in 1888 after a railway station opened in the area. In 1989, a Post Office opened here, and during the time, the locality was known as “The Lodge.
