History of Cooroy Mountain Cooroy Mountain is derived from Mount Cooroy, originally called Coorooey, from the Aboriginal word for possum, kurui. These people used to call Cooroy Mountain "Kuri'bigil'ba," which translates to the place where the Sun God came down to Dha (Earth). Cooroy Mounted was named and bounded by the Minister for Natural Resources on 5 June 1998. It was gazetted by the Minister of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and Minister for Trade on 19 November 2010 due to the council amalgamations under the Local Government Reform Implementation Act 2007. It was gazetted 10 January 2010 due to council de-amalgamation under the Local Government Regulation 2013.
