Overview Cooroy is a historic town in Queensland located in the hinterland opposite the Sunshine Coast region. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, it was under the Shire of Noosa. History of Cooroy Mount Cooroy, located to the southeast, lent its name to the town that began as a centre of timber in 1863. The first settlements that came up focused on two sawmills in the area. Gradually, dairying and fruit growing were introduced, and many plants concentrated on these sectors came up. In 1891, Cooroy got a railway station, and this led to its growth. By the mid-1910s, the town was a known centre of community woodwork and had many schools. When the Bruce Highway was constructed in 1994, it passed through the Cooroy town, which earned the epithet the "Heart of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland."
