History of Pomona The original settlers of the suburb were the Kabi Kabi/Gubbi Gubbi indigenous peoples who inhabited the town for thousands of years before European settlement began in the 1880s. The timber industry was prevalent in the area at the time. When the railway to Pomona began its operations in 1891, the land was utilised for agricultural purposes. It was proclaimed as a town in 1910 and became the administrative centre of the Noosa Shire Council.
