Overview Queensland's Craignish is located on the northwestern periphery of Harvey Bay city, the twin headquarters of the Fraser Coast Region council. The coastal suburb is about 200 km north of Sunshine Coast. In the 2016 census, Craignish was home to 1,827 residents. The mouth of O'Regan Creek separates it from the beach locality of Toogoom, while Dundowran Beach is to its east.

Living in Craignish Craignish is 10 minutes away from Hervey Bay city, a serene, green, and clean seaside locality. The Eli Waters shopping centre, the preeminent commercial complex in the area, is around 5 minutes away. Craignish is also home to the New Foodworks supermarket, eateries, a golf course and pubs. The small foreshore beach is a pristine place to enjoy the sea, sun and sand. There are several beaches within a 5 km radius of Craignish. History of Craignish Craignish is a Scottish word for a rugged rocky place. The indigenous Batjala people were original inhabitants of the area. Captain Cook passed through the Hervey Bay coast in 1770. During the 1870s, the European settlement in Hervey Bay expanded to cover Craignish. Robert Campbell set up an estate called Dundowran Craignish in the 1880s. While it was next door to Dundowran, the place was rocky. For years it was called Craignish before being formally allotted the name.
