It is not as heavily populated as the other localities, making it an excellent option for those who prefer a more laid-back lifestyle. There are a couple of green spaces within the suburb, including Lawrence Hargrave Reserve, John Armstrong Reserve, Arthur McElhone Reserve, and Beare Park. Along with the recreational sections and commercial establishments, it also houses many heritage sites along Billyard Avenue and Elizabeth Bay Road. On the other hand, most restaurants are scattered along Macleay Street. If you want al fresco dining with scenic water views, try The Lookout, just beside Beare Park.

History of Elizabeth Bay The suburb was named after the wife of Governor Lachlan Macquarie―Elizabeth. However, there were claims that it was initially called “Yarrandabby” and that Macleay Point was previously known as “Jerrewon”. Alexander Macleay, the colonial secretary of NSW from 1767 to 1848, purchased acres of land within the suburb. Subsequently, he commissioned an architect named John verge, who created the Elizabeth Bay House in 1837.
