Potts purchased the 64-acre Paddy Point estate and renamed it to Potts Point in 1830. Many private mansions came up in the area, which became a thickly populated area by 1920. After the second world war, many European migrants came to settle in Potts Point. Its growth coincided with Sydney's, and the seaside vantage point invited the Australian Navy to set up its bases.
