Living in Flora Hill The suburb of Flora Hill is home to the Latrobe Bendigo Campus and Bendigo South East College. The Holy Trinity Anglican Church, made of timber, was among the first buildings in Flora Hill. In 1972, the church was transformed into its present brick structure. Flora Hill has a State secondary school, a public reserve with a swimming pool, and a shopping centre.
History of Flora Hill During the 1st half of the 20th century, Flora Hill was far from the urban fringe of Bendigo. One of its most prominent features was a boy's farm that taught agricultural skills.
After World War II, new housing developments shifted to Flora Hill. A primary school then opened in 1952. In 1966, land reserved for the Bendigo Junior Technical School was used for the Bendigo Institute of Technology that opened in 1970. The campus of the Institute in Flora Hill in the later years became part of the LaTrobe University.
