Overview Quarry Hill is an inner residential suburb of Bendigo in Victoria. This suburb had a population of 2,339 (2016 census). It is located 3 kilometres south of the Bendigo CBD.
Quarry Hill covers an area of about 2.4 square kilometres. It has two parks that cover 5.1 % of the total area of the suburb.
Living in Quarry Hill As a residential suburb, Quarry Hill has Quarry Hill Primary School, St. Joseph's Catholic Primary School, and the Quarry Hill Recreation Reserve. Quarry Hill is generally a hardy and hilly area because of the quarry and mine workings. Several fine Edwardian and Victorian houses have the hills as their visual backdrop. The Eyrie built in 1874 is the most notable of these houses.
The Eyrie and the Bendigo Cemetery of 1858, including its funerary oven and chapel, are on the Victorian Heritage Register. The Edelweiss house in Hamlet Street was built in 1890 for Sir John Quick, a constitutional lawyer and parliamentarian. He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Quarry Hill Golf Club.
History of Quarry Hill Quarry Hill got its name from a building stone quarry nearby. This suburb was first known as the Charcoal Gully, an Anglican School that opened in 1857. The school was replaced in 1873 with a State school - Sandhurst East. In 1908, the school was named Quarry Hill.
